The Trafigura Foundation invest in catalytic solutions that address climate adaptation, the socioeconomic needs of vulnerable communities, and their connection with global supply chains.

Our strategic rationale

responding to a burning imperative

Climate change worsens existing inequalities and disproportionately affects the most vulnerable. It disrupts global supply chains affecting the flow of goods and services required for individuals to thrive.

There is a burning imperative to increase climate funding. Philanthropic investment in climate has increased substantially but continues to be small compared to other funding priorities.

The majority of climate funding available currently goes to mitigation. While decarbonisation strategies are indispensable and should be scaled up, many effects of climate change are already irreversible. Adaptation strategies are therefore essential to building resilient communities, supply chains, and ecosystems. Without a step change in support, adaptation actions will be outstripped by accelerating climate risks, which would further widen the adaptation implementation gapiv and increase the risk of

Independence

The Trafigura Foundation was created in 2OO7 by the company Trafigura as an independently managed, company funded philanthropic foundation. lt operates as a charity under Swiss law. While the philanthropic achievements of the Foundation are part of the Group’s efforts toward greater sustainability and responsibility, the Foundation’s governance structure ensures funding decisions are independent of any business influence and guided by genuine philanthropic motivations.
